Inequality in daily life and the fastest semester ever!

It seemed like it was just yesterday when I came back from Sweden after my exchange. Time passed so fast and half the semester is already over. It has been more than 6 months since my return and I still suffer from withdrawal symptoms. I think I might have developed a bad case of wanderlust. I just want to go around the world and absorb the awesomeness of the world. Haha.

However, I have to say that the modules I am taking this semester are rather interesting. For my major, I am taking HS3007 Religion and Society, HS2008 Inequality and Social Class and HS4001 Qualitative Research. They are all my favourite topics, but I have to say that HS2008 is quite a heavy module for a 2000 level course. I think the content is quite worth the effort though! It is giving me a lot of insights into how inequality manifests itself in the nitty gritty parts of life.

For instance, our consumption of branded goods. Why is it that the people who are struggling to survive with everyday live would still partake in the consumption of luxury goods? I used to have a friend in secondary school who was under the Financial Assistance Scheme. However, when she mentioned that she had a PSP which her mom bought for her, I judged her. Why would she spend such money on a game console when she is under the FAS scheme? One of the readings from Pugh gave me some insights with regards to this. Such symbolic consumption is more than an allocation of monetary resource. My friend's parents partook in symbolic indulgence, to show that they were able to provide their children with material goods. In turn, my friend gets a sense of belonging, a feeling that she had membership with the group. However, I think it backfired on her in this case because I was truly troubled about her priorities at that time. I kept wondering why did she spend the money on the game console. I guess I see it from a different perspective now and I really regret judging her.

HS4001 was more interesting in my opinion. The readings for the module was very interesting, but I think it is not as easy to score. It is not so easy doing an ethnography and my partner and I overlooked some aspects, causing our grades to suffer. However, I am glad that I learnt something from it. We were supposed to write a self ethnography about ourselves. And I thought it would be interesting to share it here. In case I lose the document somewhere along the way, at least there would be a record of it. My self-ethnography also has inequality embedded in it.

"Do you have any staple bullets?" I asked the friend next to me.
She looked at me for a moment, then said, "It is not staple bullets, it is staples. And I don't have any."
At the age of seven, I never felt that there was anything wrong with "staple bullets". My parents called them as such, and I thought everyone used the same phrase to refer to the small metal pieces we used to attach papers together. It was only when I grew older that I realised my linguistic ability marginalised me from most of the school.
I was in a single sex,  mission school. During that time I realised a group of friends and myself were slightly different from the rest of our schoolmates. Most of the students in my school came in through religious or familial affiliation. Unlike the most of my friends, I got in through a stroke of luck. Having only a fifteen percent chance of getting into school through the last phase of balloting,  I got in. Majority of the students of my school came from upper middle class families and students under the financial assistance scheme (FAS) were a rarity. I was not in FAS, but my family was not very well to do either. I would say, I belonged in the lower middle class.
I realised that I had a different level of linguistic ability when I was constantly being picked on by the English teacher and often got my compositions read out loud in class. Not because it was amazing, but because it was an example of a bad composition. Some of my classmates also laughed at some of my mispronounications and never hesitated to correct me while snickering.
In introspect, I realised that my inability to use the English language as well as my school mates was due to a lack of social capital.  I learnt whatever I knew about the language from my mother. However, my mother was not that eloquent in the English language as well, because she came from as chinese speaking family and only started to use the English language when she started working full time. Despite her inability to speak standard English,  she chose to use it as the main language when speaking to my brother and I.
I was not the only one who spoke differently from majority of the school. There were a group of girls who often hang out together in my class because they did not speak in the English language as well as the rest of the school. They often used Chinese when communicating with each other instead. I realised I did not fit in with them either. My Chinese language ability was also limited and I found myself speaking my English while they reply me in mandarin. It was kind of awkward sometimes when they made the effort to reply me in English instead.
That was when I realised that linguistic ability was very strongly linked to the habitus of a person,  the language that one speaks most know a regular basis and how you used the language. This is what bordieu calls habitus. This habitus originates mainly from the household, because young girls usually spend most of their time at home. The linguistic ability of one child is highly dependent on the linguistic ability of the parents. The child linguistic ability becomes a form of social capital in school and also a tool in power relations. The corrections on my usage of the English language in school by my classmates were actually a form of power play where they tried to establosh some form of social hierarchy based on your linguistic  ability. People who were not able to use the English language proficiently were considered more inferior.
I hope you enjoyed reading my mini auto ethnography. Laavy mentioned that we will get back to this when we reach week 11 and I am kind of looking forward to it. It had been a while since I had to write a timed personal recount kind of thing and I really enjoyed it.

January 06, 2014

Start of a new beginning.

It is finally 2014, but I would like to reflect on 2013 before I forget about it.

2013 has been quite a ride. Looking back at the first post of 2013, I decided that I have accomplished 2 out of 3 of my resolutions. Not too bad.

I wanted to procrastinate less and work harder for 2013. I think I managed to meet my goal somewhat. I kinda learnt to set my priorities right. It really feels good when you have completed work before hand. No rushing out my essay the night before. Okay, that is a lie. I had to do that several times, but I did put in a lot more effort than before in my school work. However, I have to add that my performance is still not as good as I would like it to be. 6 modules in a semester is not that fun. Especially if all six modules are writing modules. I felt a lot of stress from quite a few modules and I am thankful that it is all over. I will try my best to not apply for so many examinable modules in a semester.

In 2013, I took the leap and applied for student exchange and student buddy programme. I am passionate about both the programmes, one to help other foreign students, and the other is to experience being a foreign student myself. I have always wanted to go on an exchange for one semester and I finally got the chance. I am really really thankful for this opportunity and I hope it was be a fruitful trip.

I have also started baking again. I thought my passion for baking has diminished, but I thought wrong. Previously, no one wanted to eat the cakes and cookies I baked at home, because of the lack of guinea pigs, I could not bake too much. So I decided to try baking something I actually like to eat. BREAD. Bread is so amazingly delicious, I cannot even..... That being said, it is no wonder I did not lose the extra 5 kilograms.
 -____-

All in all, 2013 has been eventful, with Qinglin joining into our clique, our really hilarious moments together, joining the student buddy programme, applying for the student exchange programme and everything else which I have probably forgotten.

One thing that I feel requires some special mention is the fact that 2013 marked the 21st year for many of my friends and myself. As the years go by, I realise that life really brings us to different places. Some of us change drastically, some of us remain the same. What Marx mentioned really rang true as well. Our material reality really shapes how we think and what we become. I have also officially become an adult. It was a great party with great accompany. I think most of us enjoyed ourselves.

For the new year, I want to focus more on self improvement. Becoming more independent, learning how to communicate with more people and learning how to cope in a totally new environment. I predict that I will have a lot of new experiences, so I am really excited. ^^

Because I will not be in Singapore for 6 months, I also really hope that my family will stay healthy and happy till I get back. I doubt I will be able to do much crafting in Sweden, so I will catch up on crafting when I get back!

To a wondrous 2014!

Anticipation

AHHH. Everything is finally over. I am finally 21, and I managed to go through my chalet without too much hiccups (Other than the issue with the banner) I still feel that the banner was really pretty, and it was a waste I did not manage to use it, not to mention the high opportunity cost. :( My GPA will probably commit suicide as a result. I just hope that the building it fell off from is a low-rise one and I would be able to undo the damage done when I get back to Singapore. But I have to be really grateful that I have such supportive friends especially Theresa and Josephine. <3 My other friends also helped to take pictures as well. As times like this, I really feel very blessed to have such wonderful friends. Thanks everyone. For coming and helping. <3

That aside, I have to say that I am wayyy too excited for my Swedish trip. I have never been away from home for so long and I think it will be a great learning journey for me. Especially in terms of money and time. While preparing for the trip, I realised how expensive can going on an exchange be.

REALLY EXPENSIVE.

So far, even before stepping out of Singapore, I have already spent S$3000 for the air ticket and other important documents such as residence permit and insurance. -__-||| I have to be really thankful that so far, I have gotten a lot of support(especially financial support) from my parents. I hope to be as frugal as possible during the trip and hope not to be too heavily in debt to my parents. D:

I AM STILL VERY EXCITED.

I am going to be away from home for the longest time I have ever been away from home. AHHH. Talk about independence. Luckily for me, I will be travelling with 12 other people from NTU to Linkoping so I will not be too lonely. ^^ So excited for the exchange especially because I have some of  my clique-mates going with me too. AHHH. Pleasepleaseplease let everything go on smoothly.

I have decided to create a separate blog to document my exchange so that my relatives will be able to see and experience being in Europe with me. I am going to miss my family quite a bit. I am sure.

Feeling really terrible.

Have you ever wondered why God always give us things in life that make us feel like crap?

The experience of planning for a birthday party seriously feel like crap. Why make any plans when they are doomed to fail anyway?! For the sake of the chalet, I painstakingly did up my banner on PS. I spent quite a lot of time on it only to be shot down every single time I let my mom see it. I did not like the pre-made ones she showed me either. We argued everytime we discuss the banner.

"The arch is not high enough."

"Cursive font looks better"

"Put more balloons."

"The colours do not stand out."

Of all the times I let her look at it, there was not one compliment. Not at all. Nada. On a normal day, I would probably let it slide and work on it better. But when I am having stress from exams, it becomes really taxing for me to not break down and cry at the stress.

Well, today was the last straw. It is a mistake to plan the chalet with just one day to do everything. Because the banner printing shop could not print my banner so we had to do it ourselves. There are so mini mistakes in the middle I do not even know where to start. 1) Wanting to have a banner in the first place, 2) Giving in to something I really do not like 3) Not giving in completely 4) Trying to get everyone's approval 5) Not being able to let go completely.

I just wanted to feel like I did something for the event instead of letting my mom do everything. I wanted it to have something of myself.

All I did was to make a fool out of myself and make everyone unhappy. This is really terrible. I do not like it.

I really do not know what is going to happen tomorrow and I am scared to sleep for the fear that my eyes remain puffy tomorrow. I hope that all will just magically become better. I need a fairy godmother ASAP. \

Someone is going to SWEDEN! :D

OMGOMGOMG. I made it! I got accepted into Linkoping! I am so excited. I will be going in Spring 2014, so it is going to be really really cold. BUT I AM EXCITED.

This is such a dream come true. After dreaming about it since I came to NTU, I finally see my goal coming nearer. AND IT IS LESS THAN A YEAR AWAY. OMG, actually, it is 5 more months. OMG. I am just so overwhelmed and thankful and grateful.

The people I really have to thank are my parents. Thank you for allowing me to go. I hope that they can go to Denmark next year so that we can meet up!

I will definitely have another blog up when I am there. I am just so excited.

But before that, I know that I have to freeze my GPA on a good note, so I am gonna study really hard this semester. Starting now. Haha.

Ciao!

Happy Birthday, Singapore.

Now that I think about it, I kind of miss the assembly we had in Junior college, Secondary and Primary school. The singing of the National Anthem and the saying of the pledge may have started out as an attempt by the Government to bond the students together through common practices, but I think that to the most of us,  it now has a special meaning of its own. Through these everyday practices, I feel that I have subconsciously attached some meanings to the process of singing the National Anthem.

In the past, I have dreaded assembly because it meant that I had to wake up extra early to queue up at the parade ground to stand there and sing the anthem, say the pledge and listen to the various people preach.

Now, I think I miss it. Definitely not enough to wake up earlier for school, but I miss the entire routine. While it is Singapore's birthday today, I do not really feel as patriotic or hyped up for it as I did before.

The mood is totally different now. In Primary school, everyone anticipated National day because we would get to see the teachers perform on stage, sing and dance along to all the songs and we get an extra holiday. We also had class parties where we brought different food to school to share with all the classmates. In Secondary school, I got to participate in the parade because I was in Girl Guides. Standing in the midst of the parade actually made me feel somewhat important. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to be in the National Day Parade contingent because I was not 1.65m tall. T.T It was sooo sad. I loved singing the National day theme songs and the ritual running around the school hall in our uniforms. Those were the days that we will never forget, I think. In Junior college, it was not very fun. Junior College was not really fun for me anyway. But I remember the activities that we were made to participate in like the rojak making competition and the lyrics game.

It is so different in University because the National day (9 August) falls in the Summer Holidays. It means no celebration of any sort! :( I have decided that I will have a mini celebration by wearing red and white on Monday the first day of school. Hahaha. I am just not used to doing nothing for National day.

As I watched the parade on the television (I never seem to be able to win any tickets...) I had some thoughts. I was never a men in uniform kind of person, but I have to admit that the people in uniform today really looked smart. Kudos to them for the endless rehearsals in the sun and suffering in the singapore heat covered from head to toe from berets to gloves to covered shoes. Well done. If I ever have the chance to take part in the parade, I would. Because it is a form of pride and it is the kind of story which you will tell your grandchildren in years to come. The kind of heartwarming story that I love listening.

Talking about grandchildren, I asked my grandpa that day about how he proposed to my grandma. It was so adorable because he just laughed and told me to ask my grandma. I did, and she laughed too. It is so difficult to get a reaction from her nowadays. It is so sad to see her looking so blank and helpless most of the time that I think most of my family members tries to make her laugh as much as possible. I really hope that she will start talking again one day. :')

Anyway, I think it is enough blabbering for one day.

Happy Birthday Singapore. I hope you will enjoy many more prosperous years to come. <3

June 09, 2013

Busy june.

My short week-long stint at the Asian Attractions Expo has finally ended! I really enjoyed the job there even though it required me to wake up early in the morning and wear formal wear every day. It is so interesting to look at all the exhibits and the various types of attractions that theme parks can add on to their parks.

It is even more interesting to look at all the businessmen and how they interact with each other. Working in MBS is awfully expensive though. Lunch costed averagely S$10! Reimbursement is S$5, so I probably forked out S$5 for lunch every day.

Vanessa and I in formal wear! I kind of look like I was wearing my mom's clothes. Haha, I was! Dress pants are not the comfiest pants in the world. -__-

I will be going for camp next week. It is gonna be challenging. I do not know anyone who is going with me! Thank god it is a quad room in the resort. Perhaps it is friend making time!

Silently awesome.

Looking at Facebook always makes me think of the wonder/dangers of the social media. I just saw on my newsfeed that one of my coursemates just started an album on what she did during the summer holidays. Well, she crafted. She made a necklace which is pretty!

But at the same time, I thought about why she found the need to show off whatever she made on Facebook. Last year, another acquaintance of mine started an album of what she crocheted.

People post pictures on Facebook all the time, but when they post pictures on crafting, I would wonder why they did it. I suppose it is because I do not have the guts to do so myself. I am not a great fan of Facebook. The information there is simply too open for anyone to see. I mean, they do not even need to stalk you! Things about you appear on their newsfeed!

Does social media make the people of today more insecure such that they feel the need to show their achievements to other to gain recognition? I do not know. This could totally be a thesis question. Haha. I am leaning towards a yes.

Personally, when I make something, I always have this question in my mind. Should I blog about it? Tweet about it? Facebook is a no-no to me. Too many people I am not even close to there. Nadah. If I do not write about it somewhere, I kind of feel that what I accomplished is not as grand as it is. Because no one knows I did it, no one gives me compliments, I do not feel good. When I tweet about it, I hope that someone will like or reply to my tweet. Sometimes, I just feel like broadcasting it. Do you feel that way too?

But why should I feel that way? If I know that I did it and I am happy with it, I ought to not feel so unaccomplished....right? I am awesome! Just silently awesome and no one know how awesome I am. But...if no one knows how awesome I am, then I am not so awesome after all  Right? This is what we learn in Sociology right? Truth is based on mutual agreement. If no one knows or thinks you are awesome, then you are not awesome. Oh heavens! This really sucks.

So in order to be awesome, I have to let people know that I am awesome so I can be legitly awesome. AHHH. So frustrating. I have to admit. Part of the reason why I do not publicize this little blog I have here to the people I know is because I want to rebel against showing off to people. At the same time, I really want to be praised. I am a mess of contradictions, I know. But do you understand what I mean? People who post what they did up on social media always seem more awesome! >.< I feel sooo undervalued. Haha. What to do? I think the world raised us to be attention seekers.

Sigh. What a complicated world I live in. I do not understand myself sometimes.

Rebecca :/

P.S. I predict more posts like this in these few months. Haha. I overthink all the time.

SUMMER IS HEREEE!

WHEEE! Summer holidays are finally here! I started my summer holidays with a friend's birthday chalet at Treehouse villa @ Changi! It was really really far away from everywhere else but IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I had a balinese feel to the place. It is not the typically eeky chalet. Really nice^^ One of my friend's friend asked me if I was a teacher. HAHAHA. Just because I spoke English? She is funny. Do I give off the teacher vibes??? I hope nottttt.

When my final paper ended, I realised I did not have anything planned at all. Unlike the A levels, when I spent 3 years planning what to do, I realised I had no plans for my summer vacation! I did not know what I wanted to craft, work or do. Frankly speaking, I was quite lost.

BUT.

I realised that I have been religiously pinning things on my pinterest boards^^

I have something to be creative about afterall! Okay, so I have decided that for the summer vacation, I am going to brush up on my sewing skills, and craft more. Take up baking again and learn something new! Maybe learn to shop at Taobao, where it is CHINESE ALL OVERRRR. Haha. Takes brain power to figure out how to use it.

I am going to update my wannados. HAHA. It has been a while. I plan to eat more healthily too. Surprising how my craving for Mcdonalds and all bad food cease with the end of my exams. HAHA. I will have a food post soon. Nom nom. After all the Famous Amos I have eaten the past weeks, I guess it is time to be healthy  and lose some weight!!! *determined!*

Okay, I aim to accomplish 15 craft projects this summer! And I will post them all here! It will be my Summer craft challenge! Okay, this will be fun^^

I am looking forward to Summer. Are you? :)

Rebecca:)

P.S. On a more solemn note, my grandmother will be going for her operation to remove her tumour on 130513. Please pray for her.

Socializin' fun!

So, I said I had another post on my socializing experience right? This is it. Haha. What a bad introduction. Oh well, whatever. ^^

My JC1 classmates and I went back to school for lunch and a quick meet up! It was nice seeing everyone again^^ This picture was my favourite of them all! Although I am not very very close to all of you because we only had one year together, you will be in my heart! My heart has many compartments.

Before Jing Li left for Aussie, we met again at Star Visa and ate Porn's! Not bad, but the Pad Thai was not as good as Nakhon in Kovan. Tom Yum was really good because it was super sour, I like.

Went for Michelle's 21st birthday party with Cheryl. It was nice seeing her again! I wore heels so I am almost their height. Hahahaha. #cheat. Bought her a Herschel bag, fell in love with another Herschel bag, bought it and now it is on its way to Singapore from USA ^^ Much cheaper than buying from the shop in Singapore. It is out of stock anyway. -.- I super love Michelle's dress!

Celebrated Jing Li's birthday at hatched! Speaking of which, I have not bought Jing Li's present! :( She flew over specially to celebrate! Cool only! She looked so pretty that day ^^ I bought my home lighter for the occasion and everyone laughed at me. See my lighter in the picture? It was the big gun looking type. :(

Here is another picture of all of us! <3

Celebrated Jaya's birthday with my fellow guide friends! We are all grown up!

All of us! Not all, but almost!

Added this because it is a nice picture. Hahaha.

The day we collected our HSS packs and helium balloons. Poor Qing lin's balloon flew up into the ceiling during our elective. RIP, balloon. But we got another the next day. I was attempting the helium voice thingie, but there was no difference in my voice. Either I am doing it wrong or it does not work on me. I hope it is the latter. Because then I would be cool. #nonsense Hahaha.

It is only the end of March and but so far this year has been not bad IF you do not include school. School got tougher, I have 4 assignments from 4 different module due soon. I hope I do not explode....-.-

Rebecca :)

March 30, 2013

Sweet memories ^^

As my projects' and assignments' deadlines zoom in closer and closer, I need to remind myself to set my priorities right. I must really look at my current goal more closely. I WANT TO GO FOR EXCHANGE IN SWEDEN SEM 2 2014!!! I just wrote this on my wall big big! Oh well. Sucks that we place such an importance on meritocracy.

We work hard, so we must play hard too. Today was an eventful day, but I want to write about the whole of March in general. March flew by really quickly. I always have the motivation to blog when something happens, but you know, I procrastinate. :/

I am really grateful to have such nice friends in my course. I never expected it to be this way. When I went for Welcome Day in NTU alone, I thought I might really be a loner and my worse fear would come true. Instead, we had our own  loners' table and now.....we have a group of people who have a shared understanding and things to talk about all the time. Having been in a mission school almost all my life(nursery, primary school, secondary school and junior college), this is the first time I find myself not surrounded any Christians. It is a little weird, and yet interesting. My horizons really became broader. Apart from the religion shock, I think the conversation subject that ALWAYS pop up never fail to shock me.

WHY ARE WE ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT GUYS HUH?

So weird! I am talking about conversations about marriage, kids, spouses and what not. Super weird! Hahahaha. But I enjoy talking about who fangirls over who and who is the best fangirl material. Hahahaha. I once asked them to change the topic, and Phyllis said," But we are girls! " Well, I certainly hardly ever talked about guys in my other schools before 0.o Weird. I tend to keep quite quiet in those HTHT sessions. No comments and not really in a position to comment.

This post was supposed to be for me to showcase some of the things I did. I sidetracked. -.-

I had my recess week 2 weeks ago, but it was really eventful^^

Homemade Tom Yum with glass noodles with tomatoes, xiao bai cai, corn and egg. The stick there is lemongrass. I am not a big fan of it, but it makes Tom Yum nommy. Nom. This was on my stay home day.

120313 - Kiseki with Fried Brains! Best gathering with almost full attendance! We went for Japanese buffet and then to Playnation to play Kinect! <3 I stole all these pictures from Facebook, but I am sure the rest will not mind ^^

Fried brains (almost) family picture!

After Kinect, everyone was exhausted, sweaty and probably not as nice-smelling. We enjoyed it though! <3 Look at my tired face and my unevenly sized eyes.. Hahaha.

So tired that when I went to Nex afterwards, I told my brother to carry my heels while I walked in slippers. Hahahaha. ^^ Thanks bro!

150313- Disney on Ice with Lynette! <3 We ate The basement (again!) But I loved it. Met up with Josephine for a wee bit! Missed her lots! Even though we are in different schools, I hope that we will keep in touch and meet up regularly:) Must make the effort okay! Really love Disney on Ice! This year's theme was Princesses and Heroes. <3 Ariel had quite a bit of spotlight, so I loved it! Stupid bottle leaked and flooded my bag(for the XXXth time). I am always so clumsy >.<

35 baby fishes died. :( RIP, dear little ones. I missed you and loved you while you lasted. I hoped that at least one would live. But alas, it was not meant to be.

Got my HSS pack with a Helium balloon:)Found out that balloons are really nice to write on with my Zebra pen! <3

Japanese buffet again with family! <3 I love salmon, but my prof just informed me that it is not environmentally sound to eat them. 1 kg of salmon requires 6 kg of other fishes to rear. *sniffles*

Bought foot peeling mask to try. OMG. FEET PEELED LIKE CRAZY. Not like thin layers of skin coming out you know. It was a thick layer! My feet is in the last stages of peeling. I bought this Nature's Republic foot mask from Bugis. $9.90 with discount. Hehe.

Went to La De Creme with my sociology friends for a friend(s) date today! Hehe. 3 pots of tea, 1 cup of roasted almond latte, 4 desserts. It was good. I loved the round white with chocolate flakes cake the best!

Another picture.

We were going to Vanessa's house to play Kinect (Thanks Vanessa!) And she so kindly drove us from the train station to the cafe and on to her house! Even lent me her shower! Thank you so much, my friend! So I fed her the last piece of cake. My favourite one! Genevieve. It has praline, crunchy something and special cream that is so good that even someone like  me who hates cream ate it. Okay la. Just kidding. I ate the last piece. This was just a pose! :p

A picture of all of us who went! I am in an odd position, but who cares. I decided to wear my saints shirt to dance because I felt like it. ><

I still have more pictures I have not talked about yet! OMG. When did I get a life, seriously. Hahaha. Oh well. It was really fun! Maybe it was fate Vanessa's doggies were not at home. I am afraid of dogs(yes, I admit it) I want to overcome that fear though. I will. *determined*

That's all. I will talk about the rest again in another post. This post is long enough as it is! >.<

Rebecca :)

February 21, 2013

Hectic, food, blood and omg, cuteness!

Life has been HECTIC. Assignment, presentations and everything else rained down on me. Boo-hoo! I really hope that I have the strength to hold on till the end. EXCHANGE PROGRAMMMEEEE! I MUST. Cannot keep my eyes off my goal.

Okay. Other than that, CNY came and went. It was really great to catch up with my classmates from Junior College. Super grateful to my class rep's mom for organising everything and him for inviting us:)

I really miss my JC class mates ^^ I remember all the funky things we did. Till now, I cannot get over how Josephine holds her breakfast when she eats them. HAHA. When I first got my phone, the first thing they did was to take pictures. HEHE.

LOOK! So adorable, I tell you! Love them to bits! By the way, that is my favourite expression. That's why they did it. This was during the 'study for ''A'' levels' period. I cannot believe I miss it a bit. Just the lunch part. Maybe. It was traumatic. I need time to recover. HAHA.

AMBUSH! I love the sausages! Nomnomnom. I miss Germany. I miss their REAL sausages. This was with Fion at Junction 8! I remember we did not want to eat with our tutor, so we said we needed to go home when we went to J8 to eat. HAHA. *secret* I hope the tutor never sees this. Cheese bratwurst was goooood. Miss currywurst and bratwurst. D:

Random picture of the hotel in Bangkok! The sweet housekeeping person(I bet it was a lady) arranges my travel buddies like this! SO CUTE!

Finally ate at Food for Thought was Lynette! She ordered white wine with iced tea and I ordered red wine with iced tea. Tasted like red wine with iced tea. HAHA. Right picture is after you have mixed the drink. Looks like Ribena, but it taste better!(In my opinion)

Very interesting book I read about the Chinese culture! Best thing: This was written by non-Chinese. As a Chinese, I can see where they are coming from. Emic vs Etic (Sociology/Anthropology)

Saw this in the library and I mentally went OMG! I think I will borrow it to read......one day. When I have finished my actual readings and have nothing to do. HAHA.

Ate Hall 14's Western food! Sausages! Lamb, cheese and breakfast, if I did not remember wrongly. Not bad! But Ambush's is nicer! Okay. This is only $5.50. Cheap already la!

I donated blood yesterday, the first time after three years. After the terrible incident. I am really glad I did it. I do not know, but I always feel like in order to prove to myself that I can do it, I will swallow my fears and get it over and done with. Same as the first time I donated, Yi Ting went with me but she did not pass the iron count test. I was really anxious! I had no idea what to expect. But after that, I was glad I did it. I felt like I did a little for the society. Maybe it is like we learnt in Soci, it is the need to belong somewhere, to a community, so you do something that you think makes you belong. I call it social responsibility. I am not a doctor, I am not a nurse. I cannot do big things like an operation or injection. But. I know in my heart that I may have done something that saved someone's life and like a medical personnel, I was somewhat involved. I am happy.

It did not hurt when I donated blood yesterday, but I have to say I got a bit worried when I saw the needle. HAHA. (I am looking at the wound now, by the way) Two person donated, five people enjoyed the refreshments. Hey hey, it was a buy two get three free deal okay! Haha. I am glad I overcame the mini phobia I had for blood donation. Will I do it again? Yes. Definitely. I have a picture of my blood bag, but I doubt it is good to post it online. What a little girl saw the picture? Oh dear. I can show you if you want to see it. I find it amusing that my blood was warm, by the way. I mean, like, when she put the tube across your wrist, it was WARM. Cool huh. Haha.

I have to admit that I tend to advocate and encourage people to donate blood. It is an experience. I tried convincing some Soci people to do it. Did not really work. Hmmm. Even free Milo did not entice them. Haha.

Okay, I will update again when I am free. Ciao!

February 07, 2013

A post because I cannot sleep.

I cannot sleep! I was so sleepy the whole day dozing off in my lecture and in the car! But now, when I am supposed to be sleeping, I am suffering from insomnia! So much for more sleep for better skin -.-

School had been terrifying lately. This semester brought me to the world of clicker quizzes which is a pain in the arse! You have a time limit for the questions and the questions AREN'T easy! They account for some percentage of the final grade. I have a mini heart attack EVERY TIME. God. Reading the readings does not help. Last week, I did not read the readings, I got 3 wrong. This week, I read and I was confident that I would because it was sampling and I learnt it in JC and I STILL got 3 wrong. TELL ME HOW!

Technology ain't always the best thing for your grades. No no.

On the other hand, I think my coursemates and I have bonded more after one semester together! We understand more about each other's quirks and stuff (okay, I admit, it is more like my unique nature they have gotten used to.) Look! The best thing about university? Photo booths with pro cameras when they have an event! We are going again tomorrow to take more photos. Haha.

The module I am taking, BS8003, Science or Fiction: Biology in Popular Media, makes Wednesdays the best day of the week even though I have a 0930 lecture. I look forward to the 2 hour break when we go explore NTU's many canteens. Haha. ^^ I recommend this module to anyone looking to clear their STS GER-PE. I am a anti-sci-fi person, but I have started to look forward to weekly movie screenings! I swear, this is the only lecture where majority of the course people would turn up in because they wanna watch the movie in the LT. Attendance is not even taken and the lectures are recorded. My coursemates and I have to go to the lesson at least 20 minutes early or we would not be able to find enough seats for the 5 of us! (YES, I convinced many people to sign up for the same electives as me!)

Oh, did I tell you I was late for lecture this morning? I am so silly. I overshot my train to Boon Lay and Pioneer and ended up in ulu Joo Koon. This is really bad. I make all the efforts to be on time and still be late. Might as well sleep on my lovely bed for 10 more minutes and arrive in school at the same time.

Oh, I was just thinking if I should use a passive or active voice when writing on my blog. Technically speaking, since I am "writing" it and not "saying" it out aloud, I should use the passive voice. But it sounds so formal at times that I will no longer sound that what I sound like! Get my dilemma? I wished people still used picture language(or whatever it is called) to save me from using excessive brain cells by complicating life with grammar.

What else have I been doing? Oh. I have been telling people I don't fancy roses. I really don't! They are so overrated and too mainstream! I don't think flowers are a good use of money. They do not do anything but to look elegant and unapproachable and expensive. They have thorns and they die easily. My favourite kind of flowers? Definitely baby's breath. I am pretty sure the real baby's breath does not smell so pretty. It would probably smell like bad milk after all the sugars have been broken down by the amylase in the saliva and it becomes plague, suffocating and killing the teeth. Sorry, I just bio-ed a little. Anyway, it is often placed together with other flowers like roses or daisies or whatever. They are always overlooked! But they are actually so fluffy looking and happy looking and so wild! Looks like what freedom would be if it was a flower. I love it.

http://ginsoakedolive.blogspot.sg/2010/05/babys-breath.html

Anyway, I was going to sleep just now when my dad called me out of my room to tell me that the one or more of the mollies that we bought gave birth to baby mollies! *squeals* So I went take them out from the main tank to separate them from the adults so they will not get eaten. There were 35 of them. Either two mollies gave birth, or that was one mama preggo (ref. popcap game, insaniquarium) or two mollies were pregnant. I tend to chose fishes that looked pregnant because I was always so fascinated about it and always wanted to see my fishes give birth! I haven't got the chance to see it yet though. Spy the fishies! They look like little dots!

Okay, that's all for today.

I hope that my excitement has waned off and I can finally rest my body.

Ciao! Bonne nuit!

January 23, 2013

New year, new resolutions.

After coming back from Korea and procrastinating for 3 weeks, I figured it is time to blog about my new year's resolutions. Everyone has to have some right? Haha, some goals to keep in mind so that you have something to look forward to?

For me, it is better results and less procrastination. I think this have been on my list since forever. I am improving slowly but surely. I actually do not have any craft wishes I can think of as of now. Hmmm. Maybe sew better stuff??? I actually made a new pencil case for myself after using my old customized one for 3 years! I blogged about it in my first blog. Haha. I improved since then okay! My previous pencil case was not lined. This caused many of my pens of attempt suicide by dropping out of my pencil case through the stitches and into the dark cave a.k.a my bag. Haha. So I lined this new one, made it somewhat more professional looking. This is a conclusion I made after bringing it to school for a week. No one asked me if I made it! So I assume they thought it is store bought. Haha. Self-praise.....

Here's a picture!

NICENICENICE?

I am still not very good at lining my stuff, but I have to say it is much better than my previous attempts! I AM PROUD OF IT.

This was actually done a while ago, I just added my initial and sewed the lining on. Wheee! No more missing pens!

Second resolution would be to be healthier! NEED. TO. EXERCISE. Haha. I aim to lose at least 5 kgs. This was the weight I gained since J2. I need to lose it somehow.....D: Dance central anyone?

Third resolution would be to excel more in crafting. I have pretty much learned what I wanted to like knitting, wire art, sewing, crocheting lace etc in 2012. I hope that 2013 would bring me more creativity^^ I have hopes!

Fourth would be to make more friends. I am socially awkward in some situations. I admit. I have no problems making female friends, but because of my all-girls school background and feminist streak, I tend to not talk to chromosome XY unless they talk to me. As a advocate for gender equality(maybe not. XX>XY), I should not be so biased. Yes. Unless I wanna be socially awkward, and be a turtle.

Fifth? EARN SOME $$$!!! Let's go! I plan to work for my May to August holiday. I wanna save more money!

Okay. That's all actually. I am getting a bit addicted to the arcade these days. Thanks to Rachel and Freya. HAHA. I went to Jurong Point with my coursemate because we had some time and we played a game each. I think we both enjoyed it. Hehe. But playing the Mai Mai arcade with Rachel and Freya was the bomb. I cannot wait to play Kinect on FRIDAY!!! ^^v

Hatch day~~~I am 20 already?!

Well, I happen to turn 20 today. I do not feel any difference actually. Haha. Just slightly happier that I am getting a little bit of attention today. The day started late. I woke up at 1330! Cooked some lunch and left for dental. I always enjoyed craft shopping in Plaza Singapura. Always Spotlight, then Daiso! Haha, the best part is I always keep my spending under $50. Today was good because I finally got my PINK GLUE GUN. I am always harping about it and I finally got it! YAY! I think I can buy a tool box for myself already. Because the next thing on my list are pilers. Hahaha. I really have quite a lot of craft items in my room....I need to reorganize my stuff.

I ate normal minced meat noodles for dinner. I was sort of frustrated because I wanted to buy my hair extensions after Daiso, but my godmother called and said she wanted to meet me. I was not really really into meeting her, I do not know why I was like that. I felt obliged to meet her. I could not reject her :/ So instead of going to buy hair extensions, I ended up going to NEX and having dinner with my godmother. Actually I can understand her feelings, but sometimes, even though I really appreciate it, I just do not....Argh.

Everyone at home is sick. I think I passed my cold to others and I am just recovering from all the illnesses accumulated. So birthday meal is postponed to Saturday. :) Looking forward to my sashimi!

I was really really touched when Rachel and Freya called me to sing Happy Birthday when I was browsing in Daiso! Haha, I almost teared. So embarrassing! >< Haha. I am so so happy to have such friends. Thank you for being there and remembering me! *feeling mushy inside* You both have a special place in my heart. ^^

Even though sometimes people just message you on Facebook or message you on Whatsapp, I really feel quite loved when I read these messages. Even though it just takes 3 seconds to type and I do not really think much about doing it when I am on Facebook, but when I am the one receiving it, I really feel quite mushy inside. I am really not a really easy person to get along with. I am really weird. But I am just happy that there are people who accept me for who I am. Disney princess, Sailor Moon and all. Haha.

Oh no. I just received news that gave me a little dent on my hatch day! >.< I am to design a cover for my CCA Facebook page. Okay. I need to generate ideas ASAP!

That's all for today! Ciao!

P.S. Really nervous.

Books to Dramas. Rebecca in transition.

I watch way too many dramas. I just collated a list of dramas I have watch within the past 3 years, and it is a frightening amount. I can come out with a module: RL1992: Rebecca in transition. HAHAHA. Okay, It is an internal joke because I am currently studying for my module HS1002: Singapore in Transition. It is an interesting module that I think changed my views about politics in Singapore and the culture in Singapore. Very interesting to me. :) Especially for someone who wanted to be a tour guide for Singapore at one time or the other(till I realised that the pay was low. Yes, I am pragmatic this way), I think I figured all is not as it seems. Haha. Okay. Digressing. But then, my exam is in 12 hours time. I am falling sick during exams again:( Having a miserable sore throat and muscle aches. Oh well. My body never learns to stop rebelling.

So the story goes like this, I was never really into story books and novels till I was I think Primary 6. Before that, I read Enid Blyton and the other typical girl books like Mary-Kate and Ashley and Full House Michelle. I loved reading Enid Blyton books, by the way.  So anyways, I got hooked on "Anne of Green Gables". It was the first ever book that I was truly passionate about, I guess. I talked about it previously. So  when I got hooked on it, I went to buy the rest of the series. I could really relate to Anne. I do not have red hair, but I have freckles. ALL OVER...except where the sun don't shine. HAHAHA. On my knees, my ankles, my face and all over my arms. When I am bored, I would look at my freckles. Haha. There are too many to count, but it is interesting to look at them. I would never get truly flawless skin like some, but I guess I am as Caucasian as I can get with freckles. So, I do not hate them. Not that I want to be Caucasian or anything, but I think it is something that is a little different from other Asians. God knows I love being slightly different. Unique^^ I found my (fictional) kindred spirit in Anne.

Ya, so when I got hooked on books, I started reading other classics like What Katy did, Little Women, Little house on the prairie etc, etc. The weird thing is the fact that all of them had FEMALE main characters. So weird right? I never realised. I never read the The Dracula or The adventure of Tom Huckleberry Finn. So weird right? Anyway, the genre was a little limited so I went to teenage fiction. I have as strong dislike for those typical books though. Those about dating this boy, getting jealous and torn between two boys. Yuck. But most of the teenage romance fiction was like that. So I was more into the Historical and Fantasy genre. I remember by favourite series was Daughters of the Moon by Lynn Ewing. My favourite pairing was between Serena and Stanton. Haha, has this got something to do with the fact the the title has a "moon" on it and the character's name was Serena(Sailor moon's English name)??? I don't know. But their pairing was sweet. Because Stanton was a bad guy. However, Sons of the Dark, Ewing's other novel series, never piqued my interest. I also practically finished the entire series of Nancy Drew -___-   Ya, so after I finished raiding the teenage fiction, I found a historical romance novel in the teenage fiction. And so started my journey to being obsessed with historical romance fiction. It is sooo romantic and there is no annoying "torn between two guys" part. Only one true loveee. Awwwww. <3 <3 <3 Arranged marriages turned into true love always make me all sappy inside. Maybe because it will never happen in real life. (No thanks, I also do not want it) But ya. I spent 90% of my secondary school time reading and reading novel after novel. 8 books each time, visit to the library 3 times a week and borrowing everyone's library card. Haha. I was infamous okay! Haha. It was really bad. I was reading 3 books a day. I took 1.5 hours for each book. Now I think about it, I really do not know HOWWWW did I manage to do that. So ya. I am very enchanted in that sense. True loveeee, when will thee find meeee? Hahahahaha. On of my all-time favourites was The Faraway Tree. It is a children's book, but I super super love it. Hmmm. So can you imagine, my imagination can get really wildddddd. Haha.

In Junior College, I sort of ran out of books to read. I guess I reach my limit. I was not doing well in school and I had other activities like my CCA which took up some time. I really did not read much then. :/ I got my laptop, and I guess I spent most of my time surfing the web. The internet has a magical way that kill too much time. Oh, I watched many many movies.

Towards 2010, I think that was when the drama fever started, I started watching Korean Dramas. Dramas are good in the sense that they are on the computer and you can open many many windows to do multiple things at once. My habit was to play Solitaire while watching my dramas. I watched many many dramas. Korean ones though. I only started going crazy during the 8 months holidays. I was breathing in dramas. OMG. It was....haha. I ran out of Korean dramas to watch(because I was picky) and I moved to historical Chinese Dramas, which I really enjoyed. Surprise surprise! That was the extent of my practicing Chinese! Fail la. After Chinese, I watched Japanese dramas. But I did not like that much because Japanese Dramas always have very young actors and actresses that have not blossomed yet. :/ And they tend to go towards the mystery, suspense, detective type of genre. I am more of a romance comedy person. I am a really contradicting person because I like romcom in dramas, but not in movies. Aiya. I am a complicated person, as you can tell. Japanese movies are better in terms of artiste selection. I recently got hooked on some Taiwanese dramas. Taiwanese dramas are weird. Some are really nice, some really cannot make it. I do not know. Maybe I am picky. I also watched some Hong Kong dramas(I had the urge to learn Cantonese) but fail la. Because I only like the historical ones. So I learnt words like "your majesty", "sister" and the character's names. #fail.

A few weeks ago, I suddenly had the thought to compile all the dramas I have watched so yup. I got a page up. If you watched some of them, you would realise I am partial to a certain kind of storyline. Haha. Here's the page! ^^ If you need to have some ideas on what dramas to watch, you can refer to the list. I tend to like sappy romance and human drama. I cry like crazy. Haha. When I have the time, I will rate the dramas. :)

Okay, I really need to start working on my dear Singapore now. <3 <3 <3
Ciao!

Rebecca :)
P.S. My right hand is dreading the essays I have to write tomorrow. Poor hand. I love you berry much.

November 21, 2012

My alma mater, for charity, patience and devotion.

Well, my alma mater just turned 170 years old on the 16th November. Although I am not in the school any more, I will always see St. Margaret's as my school, forever and always. I will always be proud of my polka-dotted uniform. Omg. As I was googling for a good picture of our dear uniform, I found this picture.

Guess what! The FIRST thing I noticed was the HANDWRITING! :) You know whyyyyy? This picture was drawn by my dear friend! Yes, my friend, I can recognise your handwriting! <3 Surprise surprise! Hahahahaha. That's why I love my friends. I know they are people who will stand up for whatever they believe in. ^^ Although I am sure my school uniform was not as form-fitting as it looks in the picture, this is a good picture to explain why we LOVE our school uniform! :p I felt our unity as a school at it fullest when the newspaper reported our school as the one with the "uncool" uniform. Everyone was so offended by the article. Our school uniform should be the coolest! (I insist!)

It seems like yesterday when I was still in school. But my memories of my dearest school seems to be fading away slowly, but surely. My deepest impression was me not studying, reading 3 novels a day, going to the library 3 times a week and still managed to do relatively well. I do not know how did I do that. I am amazed at myself. I also remember getting third (last) in class in secondary one and jumping to the 2nd in class in secondary two because I jumped from the better than average class to the last class. Haha.Yes, they had rankings in our report books :( But I think I always seem to perform better in lousy classes. Same in primary school. I was in the average classes (3C, 4C) and was average. Then, I went to 5B and yay! Got 2nd in class. Missed the chance to go up on stage to collect my book prize (The Indian in the cupboard and When Hitler stole pink rabbit) because I went to Denmark. Unfortunately, as much I loved the former book, I never got enough interest to read the latter (Sorry Rachel, not really into war) This means a lot though. Because I usually only read books by females or when the main characters are females. The latter book had a girl with a pink rabbit toy and I picked it up first. But I never got past the first chapter(I think. Or was it the first couple of pages?) HAHA. Ahhhh. As I am writing this, the memories come gushing back in bits and pieces. The reading book list for the school holidays always had books from the Amber Brown series on it   and my Primary 6 English teacher's "advocation" for the Anne of Green Gables and my subsequent love for the series because I can totally relate to her(Anne)! Secret: I never liked my Primary 6 English teacher because of the time she read my awful composition in class as an example of what NOT to do. :( I also remember that the girl's name in the composition was Laura. D:

The games I played with my primary school friends. The stamp game, where we had to write letters and  purchase stamps....we had wages and jobs. I was the post(wo)man. Hahahaha. And the secret tunnel game with Rebecca (My best friend for the majority of my primary school life) Hahahaaha. I remembered we imagined that there was a tunnel under our houses and we can find each other in the tunnel! We did this tunnel thingie over the phone! HAHAHA. OMG. Memories! I used to spend HOURS on the phone. Now, the maximum time seems to be 15 minutes. I guess people these days lost the interest of talking to just one person on the phone. They rather talk to two or more on the internet...:( I should do more of these posts so that one day when I have dementia, I can come back and read all my stories and laugh to and at myself. HAHA. I also remember the sad times, me crying over the quarrel I had with Rebecca and the sadness I felt when we drifted apart. Like really really drifted apart. I feel the same way with all of my friends. It is so sad that no matter how close you are, you will drift apart one day. Even if you keep in contact, you will never reach the same closeness you had when you were closer. Because you no longer experience the same thing. You cannot. Because time does not rewind. I cannot say much for those with BFFs, because I do not have one. But I am sure no matter how close you are, there are times you feel this way too. :s

This post is getting too solemn. My hopes for everyone is that we remain true to our friends. Keep our friendships as real as possible. Make friends with people who really accept you for who you are. Not with the most popular or the prettiest. Even though at this point of my university life, I feel like I have not found any real kindred spirits yet, I remain positive that the future will surprise me with some. (Actually, that is quite tough to do because I am really quite a queer person.) But one can always hope.

For charity, patience, devotion let's be known,
these qualities St Margaret's shown,
On which our school has grown.

Yes, I typed it out by memory, then checked with the school official website to make sure I was correct. Haha. Only a minor mistake. Not bad right!

At this point of time, I just finished looking through the school's revamped website and realised that many teachers have changed. Ms Kee, whom I met on the bus that day, was not on the list any more. As I looked through the teacher's names, some got married (my girl guides teacher) and some left. I teared. The song that was running through my head was this:

The theme song of The Land Before Time. I just feel sad. All the times that went past, the good and bad. I can never go back again, the carefree times. I just feel like holding on to all my friends and hope that we will never lose contact with one another like my parents and their friends(most anyway). One can hope that with social media, people will put more effort into keeping in contact.

So, that's enough sentimental stuff for one day. My hope is that one day, someone will look at the star I left behind and remember that I was there. Even if I did not get to wear the green robe in the end, I was the 49th in school for O levels Okay!

Ciao!

Rebecca *smiles sadly*

Applicable hashtags.

Well, I just thought of an interesting and short post I can post about myself! Haha, hashtags! I have many informal middle names. I am Rebecca foreverlate, foreverchiongster, foreveralone, foreverbroke Lim. Haha. I am quite sure I will think of more as this post go by. Haha. This will be a hilarious post when I look at it in the future. I am finding it hilarious that I think I will find this post hilarious in the future. Hilarious-ception.

I am #foreverlate for meetings and gatherings with my groupmates and friends. (Sorry! I try not to, but I always end up late 90% of the time. The other 10%, I would probably end up too early.)

I am #foreverchiongster. I am such a badddd procrastinator that I ALWAYS end up staying up all night the day before ANY deadline. I hate it, but I am always CHIONGING.

I am #foreveralone D: . I have to say, I have a pathetic excuse for a social life compared to people my age. I wonder why... Not no social life, just much less. I like to stay home.

I am #foreverbroke. I always save up money, but end up spending them on something. Money do not stay put! >:( I spend so much on dental and driving, I used up all my income(50% of it anyways) from my 8 months holidays. :( I need a job.

I am #foreverannoyed at my brother, who just enjoys getting on my nerves.

I am #forevershocking my friends with my cool/weird/amazing/rare sense of humour. Hahaha. I am like a walking joke. :< What to do? I am glad to provide you with some laughter. After all, laughter is the best medicine.

I am #foreverbigface. I have like the biggest and roundest face I know. WHY? So annoying when I take pictures with pretty friends! Never mind, got PS! (Photoshop, not plastic surgery.) HAHA.

I am #foreversleepy. Anywhere, everywhere, anytime, everytime. It annoys me to no end! Yes, I annoy myself sometimes. How do I sleep for 10 hours, and still feel sleepy. I can sleep for 20 hours a day please. A talent, no doubt.

I am #foreverdreaming about the storylines in romantic dramas happening in real life. I am a hopeless romantic. Sigh. This is bad for surviving in our pragmatic society of today. I am too horribly not disenchanted enough for my own good. Uh-oh. I just soci-ed away. Pardon me, my dears. Haha.

What #forever hashtags woould you apply to yourself? Haha. It might make you look at yourself in a more interesting angle. Haha. That's all for today. Ciao, mon ami!

Rebecca :)
P.S. Opinion pieces and one essay to go!

November 10, 2012

Fangirling and void decks.

AHHHH! I am supposed to do my opinion piece now, but I am soooo distracted! Ahem. Fangirling does this to me. I just keep smiling to myself thinking how gooooood-loooooking the artiste is. I thought I am not the kind who would fangirl, but I am wrong! I am not the extreme extreme kind, more like the silently fangirling, internally squealing kind. AHHHH. (o^^o)v I find it funny to fangirl online and post pictures, so if you know me, you can ask who am I fangirling over. Hehe. Ahhhhh. Why so handsome! I should really get back to work you know you know. AHHHH. Okay. *switches on back-to-normal mode*

Ahem. Ya. So I went for dental and driving today. It is gonna be embarrassing to talk about driving, so lets just skip that topic and get on to the main one! Void decks. I want to live in a HDB in the future. Not in a landed property. The Singapore government keeps lamenting on the fact that Singaporeans have lost the kampung spirit, but what I saw today on my walk home from the train station really warms up my heart a wee bit(because my heart is warm enough originally. HAHA.) I was walking along the void decks when I saw a group of kids and teens(OMG. Reminds me. Am I not a teen anymore? Where did my youth goooo?)  playing with small boards(well, if a long board is a long board, a skateboard is a medium board, a small board should be a small board. RIGHT? :/) playing the small board along the void decks. they were all topless and skinny. (Jealous much!) But the main point was that they were playing so happily and they blocked my way and then someone said(like a boss),"Got someone behind." One boy turned around, saw me and bowed his heads a little and said,"Sorry!" AWWWW. SO SWEET.  Then I walked on and saw my kindergarten. IT WAS GONEEE:( Well, not gone gone, but it got revamped. Turned inside out and completely changed:( Even the playground is the new kind one. I remember eating food from my lunchbox on top of the slide. Memories memories. Anyway, I was not a pretty kid. Sigh. I am staring at my kindergarten photo now. They told me to smile and I thought it was the closed mouth kind. What came out was more of a grimace. LE SIGH. I had swollen/chubby cheeks. Oh. Those are still there now, but I grew a chin! Hahahahaha. Ya. then I walked and walked and remembered all the times I walk along this road. I never moved house before, you see. So Bishan is really my home home. I love the place. I love the park. Though I rarely go there because of the sun and the fact that I am not a sporty person. But just looking at it makes me feel at home. <3 <3 <3 I think I would love to stay in a HDB in front of a park. Bishan park would be good. Haha, I hope HDB en-bloc the block when I get a flat. :p I am simple that way. Rich people need not stay in big houses. So ya. I wanna be rich too. Haha, then I can do all the crafts in the world. But this is pretty difficult, considering the fact that I just did a career test and I got these recommended jobs...

This is just the beginning. I have primary school teacher, counsellor, social worker and that kind of jobs. So that's it. If I don't find a potentially rich husband, I will be stuck in the middle-middle class in Singapore's society. Not that I mind awfully much though. Just means having less children. Hehe.

AWWW. Kindergarten kids are SOOO CUTEEE. Is it too early to want a baby? D: Yes. It is too early. I am not even halfway there yet! HAIZZZ. If no one wants me, I will go be a kindergarten teacher. Private ones pays more right? Haha, over-qualified for kindergarten teacher already. :p

Okay. That's enough of smiling to myself today. I am literally smiling like crazy to myself now. Sigh. Ciao!

Rebecca :D
P.S. I am happily forgetting I have 2 essay assignments and opinion pieces due. BAD.
