Amigurumi gift ideas

Sorry again for the long hiatus, but I am back for a bit! :) I started my internship 9 weeks back and I am inching towards the last week of my internship. It has been an interesting experience in this MNC, and I have learnt quite a lot. I do not regret giving up the other internship opportunity as I felt that this internship given me chances to try things I have never tried before, such as creating infographics and doing a presentation in front of fellow colleagues. At the same time, my colleagues are also very friendly. Since I would not ever be in this industry (Because I am not qualified), it has been a really good experience for me. :)

That being said, it is time to worry about farewell gifts for the colleagues! After thinking for a very long time, I decided to crochet some amigurumi for my colleagues. Since I have not made it known that I can do that, I figured it would be a nice surprise for my colleagues. At the same time, I can practise my crocheting skills. It has been a while since I crocheted, so I really really enjoyed it! :)
It is my last weekend, but I have not finished crocheting. I have been doing it on and off for the past week and a half and I still have some to go before I have something for everyone. Making stuff is one thing, but deciding what to give who is another thing. :/

So let me share what I have been making :D

First up, is this very adorable pacman ghost! This is the tutorial that I used to make the ghost. It was very fun to make. Thank you for sharing the tutorial, Ms premise conclusion!

Here's my pacman ghost. It does not quite look like a ghost with such cute eyes, but it's okay. I am thinking if I should embellish it with something. Hmmm.

Then, I found this tutorial for making a lemon. This one is for my fellow intern, who followed the other colleagues in putting lemon slices into the water then asked me if she can drink milk. She is so funny. Hahaha. When I told her the lemon water will react with the milk to become curd, she did not drink the milk. Hahaha. The only think about the tutorial is that I was not able to gauge where to put the eyes, so my lemon's eye came out a little too much to the left side. But I think it is still cute nevertheless.

Here's the lemon!

I found another tutorial which I could not resist. A tutorial on making a sperm whale! It is super adorable and the tutorial can be found here!

And here's my whale friend :)

Isn't this super adorable? I had so much fun making it! I was thinking of adding a suction it so that my colleague (who has a young child) can stick it on the car window. But I am still thinking about it. :)

Okay, so this is my super quick update on the stuff I have been doing lately. When I finish everything, I will post a picture with all the things I have made. I am going to be so busy hooking this weekend. :D

New year, new resolutions.

After coming back from Korea and procrastinating for 3 weeks, I figured it is time to blog about my new year's resolutions. Everyone has to have some right? Haha, some goals to keep in mind so that you have something to look forward to?

For me, it is better results and less procrastination. I think this have been on my list since forever. I am improving slowly but surely. I actually do not have any craft wishes I can think of as of now. Hmmm. Maybe sew better stuff??? I actually made a new pencil case for myself after using my old customized one for 3 years! I blogged about it in my first blog. Haha. I improved since then okay! My previous pencil case was not lined. This caused many of my pens of attempt suicide by dropping out of my pencil case through the stitches and into the dark cave a.k.a my bag. Haha. So I lined this new one, made it somewhat more professional looking. This is a conclusion I made after bringing it to school for a week. No one asked me if I made it! So I assume they thought it is store bought. Haha. Self-praise.....

Here's a picture!

NICENICENICE?

I am still not very good at lining my stuff, but I have to say it is much better than my previous attempts! I AM PROUD OF IT.

This was actually done a while ago, I just added my initial and sewed the lining on. Wheee! No more missing pens!

Second resolution would be to be healthier! NEED. TO. EXERCISE. Haha. I aim to lose at least 5 kgs. This was the weight I gained since J2. I need to lose it somehow.....D: Dance central anyone?

Third resolution would be to excel more in crafting. I have pretty much learned what I wanted to like knitting, wire art, sewing, crocheting lace etc in 2012. I hope that 2013 would bring me more creativity^^ I have hopes!

Fourth would be to make more friends. I am socially awkward in some situations. I admit. I have no problems making female friends, but because of my all-girls school background and feminist streak, I tend to not talk to chromosome XY unless they talk to me. As a advocate for gender equality(maybe not. XX>XY), I should not be so biased. Yes. Unless I wanna be socially awkward, and be a turtle.

Fifth? EARN SOME $$$!!! Let's go! I plan to work for my May to August holiday. I wanna save more money!

Okay. That's all actually. I am getting a bit addicted to the arcade these days. Thanks to Rachel and Freya. HAHA. I went to Jurong Point with my coursemate because we had some time and we played a game each. I think we both enjoyed it. Hehe. But playing the Mai Mai arcade with Rachel and Freya was the bomb. I cannot wait to play Kinect on FRIDAY!!! ^^v

Freya's scarf DONE:)

Well, I finally finished Freya's scarf! Yay! This scarf has a mini story. Once upon a time, before both Freya and Rebecca got into their universities and were quite worried, Rebecca told Freya that if she got into the university in Switzerland, Rebecca would crochet her something since Freya knew how to knit. So days went by and Freya got into the university of her choice. YAY! In fact, I just sent her off two days back. Iam really happy and excited that she got to go to Chocolate land for her university studies. I am stuck here in Singapore. Oh well. I really hope that I would be able to earn enough and save enough money to visit her while she is there. It would be fun! So now you know the story. OMG. I really wanted to make her a purple scarf since she loved purple so much. But circumstances forbid me to. I wanted to get yarn from GZ, but I could not find it till the second last day where I found one store and that one store only had 2 balls of purple left. So I bought it and bought another colour. I was thinking of an ombre scarf, but the yarn at home and the yarn from GZ were different and in a state of perfectionist-is-me, I unwind half of what I completed on Sunday morning when I had to give it to her on Wednesday night.

I really really crocheted like I never did before to finish it, and I did. Proud am I. Awesome scarf. Nicest one I have ever made. I don't really know if she would fancy the colour, but it matches her phone! :) I half killed my mom's iron while trying to put it in shape though. Thank god. The iron did not die under my hands. It died under my mom's later that night. The plastic part melted. Haha. Oh well. Do you wanna see the finished product? Of course you do. I followed the pattern from here. Awesome pattern! Picture time!

Can be a pretend cowl,

pretend short scarf(it is really long)

The design is awesome!

I love this picture the best.

And I served it with appetizer. A pair of earrings.
So there goes. Pretty right! I love how the ends are scalloped. I wanted to take a picture of me in it. But it would seem weird. So I took it with my hanger. HAHA.  I hope you like it as much as I do! :)

Tata. That's all. Ciao!

Clothes for my baby doll.

Well...I finally started using my sewing machine! Whoa! I am so happy and proud of myself too. Today, I made 2 great achievements! First, I made my first ever knitted bow. Then, I made my first lining and HANDSEWED it onto my crocheted pencil case which was made eons ago. Wanna know how long is that? Look at this!

I finished it when I was still using littlecrochetsecrets which was last last year! Haha. It still looks like this. Just with black lining and black zipper because my brother is a guy. I initially wanted to get this for his birthday. I mean make. But I did not know how to use my mom's sewing machine, so I delayed the lining making because I hate to hand sew. Haha. I finally finished it. I hand-sewed the lining a little crooked due to my inexperience, but I am still proud of it overall because... it looks like it was bought! Haha. So happy. This is item number one.

I also finished making my first ever knitted bow which I am gonna give to Syahirah. I sort of held an auction on Twitter to see who wanted it. She said yes first! Haha. So she got it! this goes!

Nice or not? :P
Hehe. The band is very small because I thought it would be better:/ I just need to wrap the band once around my hair to tie it not too tightly. I hope she will like it:)

I also made a dress and beret for my baby doll earlier this week. Heh heh. I did not know my doll's head is so big, it made the beret look like a showercap! Haha. This week was full of many firsts! This is the picture. Is is not perfect because this was my first try, but I plan to make a life sized one soon! A DRESS. Using sewing patterns la. Haha. If you are wondering what was the la for, it is a sort of like the Singaporean slang. Without further ado, presenting...BABY DOLL!

Haha. I just realised her clothes matches her blue eyes! Not bad(Y) Looks like I have talent!

I am going to reconstruct my old sleeve now to made something....Another doll's clothes? Hmm. I am excited.

That's all for today! Ciao!

Craft update!

Well, I can finally update on what I did because I finally finished it! I finished my veryveryvery first lace crochet project. It took a while and me undoing my mistakes because I did not completely understand the instructions. It was tedious beyond tedious. I did the lace based on this tutorial. Maybe it was because it was my first time so I was not used to the hook, but it kept poking into my thumb in the area where the nail meets the flesh. Haha. I put tape over it to protect my thumb. This was the results! Nice or not? Heh heh! I am sososo proud of it!

Edited with Mei tu xiu xiu
Did I mention that I love my phone? It allows me to edit the photos with nice applications like Mei Tu Xiu Xiu which is in Chinese. It is amazing. It saves me the hassle of photoshopping the picture and it has special effects too! Noticed the blurrr? Haha. It is a stroke of genius I tell you. Of course, this only applies if the person editing the picture is awesome! Lovelovelove my lace. Time to buy fabric stiffener to make it into the lace bowl it is supposed to be!

I also went to Plaza Singapura to repair my mom's phone. At the same time, we went to Spotlight and Daiso. I agreed to make a scarf for my auntie and I needed more yarn for my ongoing project(which is taking FOREVER) Haha. So I got this!

I did not get the sole sap sheet! My brother did.
Haha. I got three balls of brown yarn at $4.50 each, the chiffon yarn and the buttons at Daiso for $2. I could not resist the buttons. They were sososo cute! My brother got the sole sap sheet for himself and I. Haha. It was supposed to make you feel more refreshed, but I felt no difference. I wonder how it works. Was it a scam? :/

Oh well. I will update more soon! That's all for today!

Pinterest and other stuffs.

Well, woohoo! I have finally gotten an invite into Pinterest! Haha! I have an account in Pinterest finally! I had been quite interested in it because it is sort of like tumblr, but it is much easier to use:) This is my account! You can take a look at it if you wanna. It is sorta cool to be in Pinterest, because you need an invite to get in. I asked for an invite, and I think I waited for quite a while before they sent me an invite! :D I will pin stuff that I see and like:)

I have been doing lotsa stuff! Ever since my exams, I have been crafting and crafting and watching a hell lot of dramas! Hehe! Super shiok! I will definitely  post up all the projects that I do here! This is just a short update. I am not gone, just crafting!

I finished a scarf in two days, I am uber proud of myself! This goes!

Yupyup, this is my favourite bedsheet of Ariel! Okay! Look at the scarf! Fluffy and cheap because I bought the yarn from Daiso! However, maybe because it is cheap, the small maomao will come off when you pull it.

Yupyup. That's all for today! I cannot wait to show you what I have been doing!

Craft shopping!

Well, before my last paper, I got onto Sophie and Toffee's website to shop as I wanted to make use of their 25% off all purchases and I splurged. I had a budget of $50 and I managed to compress it to $46+ Thank god. I feel sorry for my bank. This is the first time I spent so much online. Of course it is not considered a lot but I am a poor unemployed (not a student anymore) okay! EVERY cent counts:) Pictures below!

Package!
I was so excited when I saw this in the mail. I was hopping like a bunny.

I am really happy with the triangular tray. No more spilling of rhinestones when I pour it back into the container:)
flowers!
I bought most of these cabochons with the intention of making them into earrings for my friends but the peach coloured ones are obviously too big, so I have to think of something else for it.

Earrings to be:)
I went to Spotlight too but did not get anything this time round. Too poor and I still have not finished using the yarn I bought the other time.

lace crochet!
I went to Chinatown and got this after spending about two hours.I wanted to try out lace crochet for a while now, so I got a hook and lace thread from Golden Dragon store to try out. I hope it will turn out okay. I will post my first try once I attempt it.

I am currently busy watching a Chinese Drama called Nu ren tian xia. It is a story about Wu Ze Tian, the only female emperor in Chinese history and how the females in the story sort of manipulate the people around them to achieve their goals. It appeals to my feminist side so much. I am enjoying this show while crocheting my scarf for my Shanghai trip. Heh heh. Funfunfun.

That's all for today! Ciao!

Back from Tioman and yarn shopping.

Well, I just got back from Tioman Island in Malaysia and I have to say, I am happily exhausted. I will post more the trip next time. I have to get the pictures from the camera, which is now soaking in plain water after being immersed in seawater there. I have to say that with the camera, the experience underwater is really enhanced. I even managed to take a video underwater. How cool is that??? You can hear things:) I am so excited to show you more. But that will have to wait till I get the memory card out of the camera.

Meanwhile, you will just have to look forward to it and see what I got from Spotlight:) Okay. I always have a budget of how much I spend when I go yarn shopping. Okay. Actually, all shopping;) I told myself that I was not going to spend more than $20. So here is what I got for $20:

Loots of the day:)
Okay, The three books on the background are from the national library. So technically, I did not get those. But the rest....heh heh. they are mine for keeps. Here's the breakdown of the list of items:

Pink yarn---$4
Blue yarn---$4
Cream yarn-$4
Safety eyes-$2.99
5 mm hook-$4.99
Total-------$19.98

Haha. You know what the best thing about this is? I planned to spend $20, but I did not actually count the amount till I was at the cashier. Haha. I totally got a inborn talent for budgeting. Yay me!

I am a little sad though. I think I should have bought a 4mm hook because I did not use the 5mm one in the end because it made my stitches too big:/ Oh well. I will use it next time.

I did not really get to crochet a lot, I was too busy floating in the ocean and avoiding jellyfishes. I am TERRIFIED of them. They sting:'( I will draw you a funny short story starring jellyfishes and moi next time.

Okay. So anyway, I only managed to make these during the trip:

All by me:)
Nice? I know it is not perfect, but who cares. Haha. The snail and mushroom pattern is from the book above. The one with amigurumi. The mushroom looks a little weird because I am not so good at ahem...sewing. Yes. Oh well. I did some modifications to the snail, and I love it:) I am so giving this to Wan sing, my classmate who used to be terrified of snails. I think her fear has been reduced because some friend of hers kept posting pictures of slugs and snails on her wall in Facebook for a certain period of time. Haha. The last is the bow made with my own pattern. Hehe. I will have a tutorial on how to make that when I finish editing the pictures and stuff.

Oh well, I leave you with this picture I edited. Haha. My friend brought colourful Gofish to school to share during Chemistry class. Rebecca ended up arranging the fishes according to colour. But fishes are meant to be eaten, right? So she popped them into her mouth, hmmm. It is a tad too salty for her taste. Haha. Ciao!

Rebecca:)
